Groton School, Kenya, 2011

"One of the first things we were asked when we arrived was 'who would like to milk a goat?' Chelsea volunteered to go first and had some difficulties at first, but in the end she got a mug full of milk that one of the children drank."

“One of the most notable events was our tea time…many of us played and talked with the girls for hours, and we sang “Down to the River” from O Brother, Where Art Thou? with the Masai workers on our team, then they taught us one of their songs, and they danced a bit. This connection was notable because we truly felt like a team.”

“I grabbed my camera and Masai escort to walk me to the river. The sun was rising above the trees revealing a group of Hippos relaxing on top of each other just below our breakfast tables. Is this real? Am I dreaming- no after a pinch – I’m awake.”

“In the last few days we have started a small tutoring operation in the empty school classrooms located on the other side of the work site. The boys share books that are barely held together at the spine- clearly they have been used by many students before them. It has been truly rewarding to work one on one in this way.”
