Information for Faculty

Information | Testimonials

We want you, the educator, to grow and expand your potential as a teacher. We offer the following avenues of personal and professional growth for faculty:
•    Student service programs (you help lead these programs with our instructors and coordinators)
•    Faculty development programs
•    In-service trainings
•    Global Partnerships

Regardless of how we work with you, we want you to be inspired by your experience and develop new tools and approaches for teaching.  We take a long-term perspective in all areas of our work because we believe that real education and change can only happen through long-term commitment. This applies to the relationships we help your school build with schools overseas, and it also applies to the collaborative units we help you run with teachers on the other side of the globe.

Most teachers become involved with World Leadership School as a faculty leader on a student service program. Here’s what you can expect from us if you lead a student service program:

Full Support
You can count on our full support from the beginning to the end of a World Leadership School trip. We will create a detailed proposal for your school and other materials to help you recruit students. We can visit your school to make a presentation or talk to parents via teleconference. Once the group is formed, we communicate directly with students and parents to answer any questions and we supply you with orientation materials to help prepare students. We take care of all trip logistics such as airfare, lodging, accommodations, etc. so that you can focus on what you do best – teaching.

Customized Curriculum
Several months before the trip, you will meet with the World Leadership School Academic Director to map out the curriculum for the trip. At this time you will also meet the instructor with whom you will be working. This is your chance to help shape the learning experience for your students and also decide your exact role on the trip. We encourage you to teach alongside our instructors, staff and local experts and help facilitate our global issues and leadership sessions. We also encourage you to begin working with students on core world Leadership School themes before the trip begins. New ideas and creative teaching techniques are welcome! Whatever your level of involvement, we will help you prepare.

Site Visits
Visiting our projects is an effective way to collect information and meet key people before taking students abroad. We make site visits easy and affordable for your school. During a site visit, you can meet with our in-country director and staff, tour our facilities and, if the timing is right, witness a program in progress. You can also meet with the host community and interview host families. Then you can see other areas of the country where your students will be headed.

Safety

The safety of our students is our number one priority. We build safety into every level of a World Leadership School trip.

We begin with seasoned in-country directors who have a long record of safely handling students in their country. These directors personally select the communities we work with and screen host families. They are responsible for coordinating all logistics such as ground transportation and activities.

The next level of safety is provided by the World Leadership School instructor, who travels with the group. The instructor has gone through our training program and has the requisite first aid training. He or she understands how to keep students safe and works closely with the school’s teachers, who are also on the trip.

The final, and most important level of protection, is the community itself. We select communities that are small and closely knit, where neighbors take care of each other. Our host families take the safety of their students very seriously.

Safety
At World Leadership School, we take safety very seriously. Apart from our risk management protocols and pre-established evacuation plans, each program has three basic levels of safety.

If we do not change our direction, we are likely to end up where we are headed.
