2011 Global Education Conference


November 14th-18th, World Leadership School participated in the 2011 Global Education Conference. The Global Education Conference is a free, online conference which brings together global educators, students, and organizations to present, share ideas, inspire action, and learn about the world of global education. Webinars


In an effort to deepen professional development opportunities for teachers, World Leadership School is beginning a Global Education Webinar Series for the 2011-2012 school year. All webinars are free to teachers involved in WLS's Global Partnerships Program. Teachers outside of this network are welcome to join the webinars at a cost of $75 per session per teacher. Please contact Elizabeth Leighty at lizzy@worldleadershipschool.com to reserve your spot; she will provide links and instructions for the Elluminate/Blackboard Collaborate webinar room, and can take payment as needed.

Please note that all webinars will run for 60-90 minutes, depending on depth of dialogue.
All webinars will begin at 4pm Pacific Time—5pm Mountain Time—6pm Central Time—7pm Eastern Time.
Whenever possible, any direct instruction will take place in the first 30 minutes, with discussion to follow.
Please note that all sessions will be delivered in English, but GP teachers outside of the United States and Canada are welcome to join the sessions, and Jennifer is glad to handle questions in Spanish.

This open session will explore some of the key e-technologies in global education, including both synchronous and asynchronous platforms. From TakingITGlobal to Google Earth, e-technologies are the solution to effective global education—and the factor most likely to lead to a project's failure.

Shifting School Culture: Involving Parents, Developing School-Wide Events and International Support


Ongoing global educational efforts require the support and involvement of the entire school community.  This open session will explore ways to involve your parent community and local/international NGOs in the development of your global projects.  We will also explore how school-wide events can play a role in shifting school culture toward one engaged in transformative, authentic global explorations.

Going Glocal: From Global Problems to Local Solutions


Global learning is most powerful when students don't see problems as existing "out there in the world" but are able to recognize the connection between global issues and challenges at home. This open session will explore the creative approaches of teachers who have fused the global with the local, exploring global problems but then applying them through service learning or collaborative projects in their local community.
